1889 Territorial School House Programs

Located at its original address at 124 East 2nd Street in Edmond, Oklahoma's First Territorial Schoolhouse was completed in August of 1889.  Now over a hundred years later the Edmond Historic Preservation Trust has restored the school to its original state.  Open to the public the first two Saturdays of each month from 1-4 and by appointment.

Field Trips

The schoolhouse is also a popular field trip destination for children in 3rd and 4th grade as well as home school groups.  Our resident Schoolmarm leads student's in a day in the life of an 1889 student.  With preparation before they arrive children are immersed in life of yester year.  They will dress, eat and learn in the style of 1889. From the moment they enter the historic doors they become a part of history.

Our certified teacher has transformed herself and our curriculum to give the scholars a truly unique experience of a lifetime.  Following the Oklahoma PAS skills requirements the field trip is more than just a fun day out.  The children are learning essential skills which are required by their school system with an experiential twist.  Book your field trip today by calling the museum at 340-0078.

Our new and improved Homestead Fair!

In the past EHS held an annual Homestead Fair in April. Students were invited to the museum to learn about the home life of 1889 families in Edmond. Last year we took the “Homestead: History in a Trunk” into the schools to present hands on activities to the students in their classroom adn it was a HUGE success so we have decided to continue.  The Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) is included in our presentation.

We are excited to offer this fun learning tool:

  • Available Tuesdays & Fridays, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Each presentation lasts one hour.
  • Cost is $1.00 per student.

Presenter will come fully dresses in costume and bring “hands on” materials for your students to enjoy. One classroom per presentation is recommended for full learning capability, but multiple classrooms per presentation will be accepted.

Contact Christine Gibson at 340-0078 or cgibson@coxinet.net to schedule your classroom today!
