Museum Information
Edmond Historical Society & Museum Mission:
Celebrating Edmond History Through Preservation and Education.
Step through the front door of the Edmond Historical Society Museum and you immediately enter the community's history. The museum is housed in the former Armory of the 179th Infantry, 45th Division of the Oklahoma National Guard. The historic, native sandstone building was built in 1936 by the WPA.
Our permanent collections are arranged in
chronological order from pre-historic prairies to 1888 when Edmond was a
coal and water stop for the
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad,
through the Run of 1889, the town's expansive growth in the 1900's,
through the
present.
The Museum is currently undergoing major
changes to the entrance exhibits relating to Native American and 89er
& Pioneer exhibit areas. These exhibits have been constructed to
make history an accesible and fun experience for all generations of
museum goers.
Adults are free to browse and read historical information about Edmond's history while Children can enjoy hands on play in our Children's Learning Center.

Also within the museum you will find exhibits featuring many of our
most illustrious citizens including Olympic Gold Medal winners Shannon
Miller.
Historical resources include the museum collection with over 30 thousand artifacts and historic photographs, a non-circulating research
library with books and documents related to Edmond and Oklahoma, newspaper
on microfilm, and a genealogical computer research area co-sponsored
by the Edmond Genealogical Society. Paying members of the Genealogical Society who are interested in serious research can be trained to use the digital databases and learn to use ancestry.com as a research tool.
