Learn about the Monarch Butterfly
August 23, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Each September, fluttering black and orange butterflies make their way through Edmond as they head south for the winter. For decades, these unique migrating monarchs have been studied—but they still baffle scientists in many ways. Museum Director, Amy Stephens, will be offering free demonstrations to anyone interested in helping with the research of Monarch Watch. Drop by anytime during business hours on Friday. It will take about 10 minutes to learn the proper techniques.
Amy has participated in the project since 1998, back when she worked at the Oklahoma City Zoo. She is thrilled to share the easy skill of catching and tagging (stickering) monarchs for further study. Note: The monarchs usually come around the end of the month—so you will need to order your stickers in the next few weeks to get them in time. https://shop.monarchwatch.org/
