Meet the Teacher
“Meet the Teacher at the 1889 Territorial School” August 10th, 11th, and 12th, 10 am to 2 pm each day.
During the days before school starts, take a field trip to Edmond’s historic one-room schoolhouse for a glimpse of a school day from the perspective of Edmond’s first students. The restored 1889 Territorial Schoolhouse at 2nd & Boulevard is the first public school of Oklahoma Territory and the only one-room school remaining along Route 66. “Schoolmarms” and territorial volunteers will greet visitors for a tour to see what it was like to go to school in the 1800’s. Activities include learning to write with a quill pen, playing old fashioned games and make a whirlygig. All ages are invited to this FREE come-and-go event, and picnic lunches in the schoolhouse back yard are welcome. Hosted by the Edmond Historic Preservation Trust.
