Memorial Day- Historical Brass Band Performance

May 25 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

The Edmond Memorial Historical Brass Band will perform a selection of Civil War-era music on Memorial Day, May 25th, at 9-10am at the Edmond History Museum. The Band is under the direction of Tanner Morgan, Director of Bands at Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond Oklahoma, and is composed of students from the band program.

The Band has the unique distinction of being the only high-school level Civil War Band in the United States, where the wind instruments are completely period correct. The prized instrument in the collection is the Eb over-the-shoulder Bass Saxhorn, used during the American Civil War in the early 1860’s. The ensemble performs strictly period repertoire, and through lecture-based programing, tells the story of Abraham Lincoln and Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day program will include a telling of the history of Memorial Day and how Edmond Memorial High School dedicated its name in 1975, to honor Vietnam War veterans who died in service.

There is no admission and all ages are welcome. The museum will be open to the public from 9am to 5pm on Memorial Day.
