Prairie Librarian

April 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Edmond History Museum presents Edmond’s Prairie Librarian, a living history portrayal of pioneer, Jennie Forster, at the Edmond branch of the Metropolitan Library System on Saturday, April 18th at 2pm, no fee or reservation required.

In 1889, George and Jennie Forster came to Edmond to stake a claim and start a new life in Oklahoma Territory. George opened a General Store, and Jennie opened a library on the store’s porch—earning her the title of Edmond’s first librarian. Due to Jennie’s persistence and belief in education, she also led the townspeople to raise enough money to open the 1889 Territorial Schoolhouse, which still exists at 2nd & Boulevard.

During this living history presentation, Jennie’s spunky adventurous life will be portrayed by museum director, Amy Stephens, through acting, props and photos, to immerse any-aged audiences, but specifically school-age and up.
