The Edmond Sun: Connecting Our Community 1889-2014
Milton “Kickingbird” Reynolds had a vision of a prosperous college town when he established his newspaper in Edmond, Oklahoma on July 18, 1889. He extolled the virtues of Edmond in The Edmond Sun and sent his paper far and wide to encourage others to come and settle here.
Now in its 125th year of production, The Edmond Sun is the oldest continuously published newspaper in the state. There have been many changes in that time, both for Edmond and its namesake paper, but The Sun endures as a source of local news and a champion of the community in which it was founded. This exhibit will include early printing presses, a type case and other artifacts that illuminate the changing face of news technology along with newspapers that were printed as the news unfolded. Join the Edmond History Museum & Museum and the Edmond Sun to revisit pivotal moments in our history and meet the citizens of Edmond, notable and ordinary alike, as we celebrate this invaluable local resource.
August 29, 2014 – December 20, 2014
