Edmond’s Social Fabric
November 2023 – March 2024
Over the centuries, quilts have evolved from functional handmade blankets into an art form that often carries deep personal meaning. Women stitched them, either individually or as a group, to serve various purposes. The 17 quilts in this exhibit, dated from 1890 to 2021, visually display Edmond’s history in the following ways:
- Household Use
- Personal Storytelling
- Record of Historical Events
These examples of fabric and thread represent hard times, grieving mothers, fundraising events, and specific moments in time. Each one offers us a glimpse at the Social Fabric of Edmond.
