Edmond History Museum is seeking a qualified educator to teach and supervise the education programs about Edmond-specific history, from pre-Statehood up to modern events and broad Oklahoma themes. Topics vary regularly depending on exhibits themes. Regular programs include Gallery Adventures for young children, reenactments of 1889 school days, homeschool programs, scout badges, holiday programs, adult lectures, living history talks, 1940s Radio Theater shows, and family fun days. New and/or one-time programs are developed based upon the topics of museum exhibits.
Description of Position
This position is responsible for managing all educational programs and events, including community outreach, program marketing and lesson oversight, as well as supervision of the part-time educators.
Educational Program
- Develop educational programs and events that engage the participation of diverse members of the community at the Museum and historic Rodkey house, schools, assisted living centers, daycares, community venues, and Stephenson Park.
- Write creative lessons and develop interactive stations that tie in with historical themes and exhibits.
- Teach lessons in a manner that is engaging, age-appropriate, historically accurate, and entertaining.
- Correspond and coordinate with educators, parents, students, and staff members.
Supervisory Duties
Hire, train, schedule and manage the part-time Museum Educators, 1889 Schoolhouse teachers and volunteers, event volunteers and contracted entertainers. This position also oversees the education budget.
PR/Marketing
- Design, write, distribute and manage marketing materials related to programming and events, including but not limited to: press releases, mailers, social media posts, flyers, brochures, or educational videos and digital content.
- Responsible for working with website provider (WordPress based) to keep the site up-to-date, engaging and relevant.
Community and Business Outreach
- Engage with relevant community groups, interacting and building linkages with our current support base.
- Create programs/events or hold booths that build relationships with local businesses.
1889 Territorial Schoolhouse
- Coordinate and communicate with the Edmond Historic Preservation Trust about scheduling Schoolhouse field trips. (The Trust owns and manages the Schoolhouse).
- Responsible for providing quality Schoolhouse programming.
- Oversee the Schoolhouse educators.
- Correspond with teachers, parents, homeschool groups, public and private schools to schedule educational programs in the Schoolhouse.
Qualifications
To perform this job, an individual must have teaching experience, speak well in public, be a self-starter, and have the ability to achieve essential duties and other duties as assigned. Preference given to applicants with a BA in education, history or museum studies. The ideal candidate has at least two years of teaching experience, is positive, professional, creative, organized, flexible, and works well with people.
Salary and Benefits
$40,000

Schedule
35-hour work-week. 20 days Paid Time Off, plus city-recognized holiday off (or equivalent, if working the holiday) and flexible Christmas scheduling. Typical schedule is 9:00 to 5:00 weekdays, and a rotating Saturday schedule, with associated comp time. Some weekend and evening hours required, including some programs, exhibit openings, fundraisers and the annual membership meeting in September.

Part-time Opportunities
Museum Educator
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Education Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time
LOCATION(S): Main Facility, Remote
COMPENSATION: $10.00 per hour
SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Director of Education, the museum educator will assist with the execution of all museum programs. This includes assisting at school break camps, working museum rentals, and facilitating other programs. This position will also assist in reviewing Virtual Merit Badge programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
FACILITATE PROGRAMS
- Facilitate school break camps
- Write school break camp curriculum
- Facilitate free family programs
- Facilitate Museum rentals
- Give in-person guided tours of the Museum, for field trips and other groups
- Participate in organizing and developing in-person activities for students and families
SCOUT PROGRAMS
- Review Merit Badge work generated by Scouts BSA
- Write extensive and timely feedback for program participants
- Meet with Scouts via Zoom to offer feedback
OTHER
- Duties otherwise as assigned
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: High School/GED
SKILLS:
- A customer-oriented approach is essential

- Ability to represent the Edmond History Museum in a consistently positive and professional manner to internal and external audiences
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee will work year-round in both an office environment and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud. Remote work available.
