Museum Educator
REPORTS TO: Education Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time
LOCATION(S): Main Facility, Off-site work, possible remote work
COMPENSATION: Starting at $10.50 per hour (pay increase after training period)
SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Education Manager, the museum educator will assist with the execution of all museum programs. This may includes assisting at the 1889 Territorial Schoolhouse, school break camps, summer camps, working museum rentals and birthday parties, and facilitating other programs. This position may also assist in reviewing Virtual Merit Badge programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
IN PERSON PROGRAMS
- Facilitate field trips at any of our locations (Museum, Rodkey House, 1889 Schoolhouse)
- Facilitate school break camps or summer camps
- Create and organize school break camp curriculum
- Facilitate free family programs
- Facilitate Museum rentals or birthday parties
- Give in-person guided tours of the Museum, for field trips and other groups
- Participate in organizing and developing in-person activities for students and families
SCOUT PROGRAMS
- Review Merit Badge work generated by Scouts BSA
- Write extensive and timely feedback for program participants
- Meet with Scouts via Zoom to offer feedback
OTHER
- Promote Edmond History Museum programs and events
- Duties otherwise as assigned
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: High School/GED
SKILLS:
- A customer-oriented approach is essential
- Work well with teams
- Works well with children, able to teach children
- Ability to represent the Edmond History Museum in a consistently positive and professional manner to internal and external audiences
- Ability to remember and share historic information and facts
- Comfortable talking to large and small audiences of various ages
- Comfortable wearing time period appropriate attire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves year-round work in both office and outdoor settings. Noise levels may range from quiet to loud depending on programs and events. Limited remote work may be available. Work hours and scheduling are dependent on the needs and demand of scheduled groups and fluctuates throughout the year.
